Pulling from the personal experience of director and co-writer Mike Hogan, The Cost leans into genre filmmaking to explore the economic, physical, and emotional realities of being a type 1 diabetic in a country where healthcare is a ruthless business.

What starts as a thriller turns into a nuanced character study that delves brutally into the human side of a political issue, examining the lengths people will go to provide for their family.

The film is budgeted for a four-day shoot. An itemized budget is available for parties interested in financing the film. This budget will be needed to pull off the shoot in a professional, safe manner that ensures insurance and permitting requirements are met, the cast and crew are paid well, and that the quality filmmaking that Tall Order is known for is upheld.

We are partnering with the nonprofit T1International on the film and fundraising efforts, because we want to not just tell this story, but drive funds towards those on the frontlines of the fight for insulin affordability. To that end, 20% of money raised for the film will go to T1International.

The Cost is fiscally sponsored by From the Heart Productions, a 501(c)(3) so donations are tax deductible.

Any amount donated makes a difference, and is appreciated.

The Cost is a proof of concept for the feature film Angeles, currently in development from co-writers Mike Hogan and Jerome Cleveland Keith, which sees the story, characters, and themes of the short expanded into an epic crime tragedy.
